An educational forum entitled, 'The Challenge Ahead: Repairing Our Damaged Bill of Rights', will be presented on Sunday, October 19, 2008, from 2:30 to 4:30 P.M. in the Grange Hall in Friday Harbor.
The speaker will be Dr. Daniel Larner. Dr. Larner has been a member of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Board of Directors for 35 years.
He speaks to diverse audiences on issues concerning civil liberties and national security. Dr. Larner received the Liberty Bell Award from the Whatcom County Bar Association in 2008. for 'lifetime achievement in civil rights education and advocacy.' Dr. Larner is a playwright and theatre scholar, a Professor of Theatre, and a former Dean of Fairhaven College, at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. The free public presentation will be followed by a town hall discussion. The objectives of the forum are to inform and to discuss recent abuses to civil liberties that are guaranteed by the Bill of Rights of the United States Constitution and to suggest possible remedies.
