There's a community-wide fundraiser Friday night to support the mission work of longtime Friday Harbor residents Gary and Margo Posenjak. It will be from 4-7 PM at Friday Harbor Presbyterian Church.

The Posenjaks run KAKO, a retreat center in a remote area of Alaska, which serves the needs of Native Americans. KAKO provides marriage counseling for native couples, teacher retreats for educators living in remote villages of western Alaska, Christian Bible camps for kids and teens, and drug and alcohol counseling for nearby villagers.

The Posenjaks also host a weekly kids' club in the nearby town of Russian Mission throughout the school year. Their mission is air-based, as the remote villages can only be visited by airplane. The cost of airplane fuel has risen dramatically, causing a severe financial burden on the KAKO budget.

The spaghetti dinner, jointly hosted by Friday Harbor Presbyterian Church and Island Community Church, will include salad, spaghetti, homemade breads, beverages and homemade desserts. CARRYOUT DINNERS ARE AVAILABLE. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children aged 4-12. Children 3 and under eat free.
