At 7 p.m. on Thursday January 29, the first of the 2009 Arthur Whiteley Lectures presented by San Juan Nature Institute in collaboration with UW Friday Harbor Labs, will take place in The Commons at the UW Friday Harbor Labs. Dr Donald Brownlee will speak on ‘STARDUST, what we found by studying samples of a comet from the edge of the solar system’. This is a sequel to a 2005 lecture describing the project to catch dust from a comet’s tail.
In the intervening years the dust has been studied by a team of researchers lead by UW Astronomer Dr Brownlee.
This year he follows up with the results of scientific investigation of comet dust successfully snatched from the tail of a passing comet three years ago. This lecture will inform and stretch the imagination.
For details of the 2009 Arthur Whiteley Series of lectures please visit www.sjnature.org.
